Next Generation Audi A8 Piloted Driving Features and Release Date
It’s never a surprise to find Audi at the forefront of technological innovation. What some drivers may not have expected, however, is to see piloted driving technology arrive in vehicles so quickly. Yet, it seems that Audi has revealed information on the next generation Audi A8 piloted driving features and release date that are sure to get you excited.
It’s no secret that Audi has been working on piloted driving technology for some time. But now, new details are emerging that are providing us with an idea of the type of piloted driving technologies we could see when the next generation Audi A8 arrives during its currently scheduled release year of 2017.
Next Generation Audi A8 Features for Piloted Driving
Just recently, an Audi RS 7 piloted driving concept car was put to the test on the challenging Sonoma Raceway in the U.S. state of California. The new generation of the car, called “Robby,” is capable of producing up to 560 horsepower and 881.8 lb.-ft. of torque. The concept model was able to post lap times better than those of sports car drivers, completing the 4050-meter (2.5 miles) circuit in only 2:01.01 minutes.
Audi says that piloted driving technology will be released to consumers step-by-step, so don’t lie down in the backseat of your Audi and expect it to automatically take off toward your destination just yet. First, Audi will be releasing its Traffic Jam Pilot System with the next generation A8.
So far, not much is known about the technology or how it will be implemented. What is known, however, is that the technology is designed to handle driving tasks during congested highway traffic at speeds up to 60 km/h (37.3 mph). The piloted systems are said to be valuable to the driver thanks to an ability to reduce stress, increase comfort and enable even more efficient driving.
