The North American International Auto Show in Detroit (NAIAS) is just a couple weeks away and with it will come the official unveiling for the new 2012 Audi A6, a car that is going to reset the bar for it’s class.

The A6 sedan is all new, it will sport a lightweight steel and aluminum construction (fenders, hood, rear hatch, doors and select suspension components) that Audi says will be 15 percent lighter than if they had been made from steel. The new A6 is almost the same size as the car it replaces, but the wheelbase is longer by seven centimeters and the car is one centimeter wider as well, giving the car an even more substantial presence. The new A6 will weigh in at 1575kg according to Audi, the A6 will have a more sculpted roofline, pronounced hood and notched headlights to give it an aggressive stance.

A variety of engines will be available for the new A6 including V6 gas and diesel engines, along with the Supercharged V6 engine that was just won the Ward’s Auto 10 Best Engines for 2011 for the second year in a row. We are looking to have the new A6 in the late summer, but official word will come at the Detroit show.
