High-Performance Audi RS Q7 Rumors

If you have been keeping up with the latest in Audi news, you likely already know that the 2016 Audi Q7 set to arrive early next year will be shedding a great deal of weight. In an effort to boost both performance and fuel economy, 716 pounds have been cut from the SUV, but it could put the weight back on as the automaker just confirmed all of the high-performance Audi RS Q7 rumors that have been floating around.

Just today, the German automaker told Top Gear that they will be producing a performance-tuned version of the full-size SUV, and although we are still not quite sure what the official name or release date will be, the British automotive magazine has reported that Audi will likely stick with what they know, meaning the new Q7 variant is likely to carry on the RS name. Needless to say, we cannot wait to hear more about it.

There isn’t too much information about the engine that will provide the Audi RS Q7 with the added power, but Top Gear expects to see a TDI Clean Diesel engine serve as the source. The magazine also noted that a gas-powered engine could help to make the high-performance Q7 more competitive with the BMW X5 and the Mercedes-Benz GL63 AMG, both of which come equipped with larger turbocharged V8 engines.

As of right now, a release date, or even a rough timeline have yet to be established, but the source at Top Gear said that we will have to wait “some time” before we see a production model hitting the streets. So, unfortunately, we won’t be seeing the high-performance Audi RS Q7 as an option when the lighter, 2016 Audi Q7 arrives next year. The good news is that the model has been confirmed. That’s all that matters.

For more information on the Audi RS Q7, including more about the engine and the performance specs, be sure to check back here on the Audi Royal Oak blog, where we will be sure to provide you with updates as soon as they are made public. Hopefully the next batch of news we hear is direct from the source, as we cannot wait any longer to hear about the high-performance Audi Q7 and all that it will be capable of.
