2015 Top Safety Pick-Rated Audi Vehicles

When you purchase a vehicle, you want to make sure that it’s safe. For many, safety is the biggest factor in the purchase of a new vehicle, and yet a surprising number of luxury automakers seem to forget about what matters most. They put so much time and effort into the styling of their vehicles and ignore how they will protect in the event of an accident. Thankfully, Audi is not one of these automakers. They focus on all aspects of their cars and SUVs. It’s a claimed backed by the 2015 Top Safety Pick-rated Audi vehicles.

Every year, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety tests the safety of every vehicle on the market, looking to see how it performs in various situations. After the results are calculated, all vehicles that were able to achieve impressive results are awarded for their stellar performance. They can either receive the Top Safety Pick, or the newest Top Safety Pick+ rating, both of which are prestigious awards.

Of all the 2015 Audi models tested by the IIHS so far, there have been two with the ability to stand out from the rest. Those models include the Audi A3, and its performance-tuned counterpart, the Audi S3. The pair of sedans were both able to secure the highest-possible Top Safety Pick+ rating, as they both were able to deliver an impressive level of performance in the new small overlap front test.

2015 Audi A3 Small Overlap Front Test Score

Just recently, the IIHS added a new test to their curriculum, bring the total number of tests to five. As we said, the small overlap front test is the latest to be added, and although it doesn’t sound like much, it has proved quite difficult for many automakers to pass, keeping their vehicles from earning the top rating.

The test mimics what were to happen if a small corner of the front end were to come in contact with a rigid barrier such as a tree or utility pole. To mirror this, 25 percent of the vehicle’s hood is slammed into a concrete wall at 40 mph. Since the engine block is typically in the center, it is not there to absorb any of the impact, leaving the work to the vehicle structure, restraints and airbags.

Both the Audi A3 and S3 were able to score the highest rating of “good” in the small overlap front test, as well as the four others: the moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints and seats tests. With a perfect score in all tests, the pair of sedans were presented with the 2015 Top Safety Pick+ award.
