Summer Road Trip

Is Your Audi Ready for Summer?

It’s that time of year! The sun is out, school is out, and your family and your car are ready to get out for the great summer road trip! But what can be the trip of a lifetime can also be disappointing if your vehicle is not road trip ready.

There are several simple, cost efficient steps you can take to make sure your family and your vehicle all have a great trip!

Remember, at Royal Oak Audi, our friendly and highly qualified team is here to help you every step of the way in getting you all set up for summer!  You can call the service department directly at 403.374.5040 to schedule your vehicles maintenance appointment today.

For now, here are some of the top things to consider before hitting the open road!

Coolant

A simple way to check if you have a coolant leak is to sniff the engine when it’s warm.  If you smell something sickly sweet, you may have a coolant leak. If you see green or yellow streaks on the engine-oil dipstick, the odds are even higher. Get it checked out.

Oil

Check your oil before you hit the road. Be sure to always bring your vehicle in for regular oil changes. When this is done, additional maintenance checks will also be taken care of.

Belt, hoses and timing belt

Make sure belts, hoses and – if you have one – the timing belt are in top shape;

Battery

Get your battery checked. A very simple way to ensure the vehicle is set to go!

Air filter

Clean your cabin’s air filter. A clogged filter restricts airflow and also doesn’t help in allergy season!

Windshield

Clean your windshield inside and out, and replace worn wiper blades (one-piece blades offer the best performance). Also top up your washer fluid and stop to clear off bugs and film along the way.

Brakes

Have your brakes checked regularly, including the master cylinder, calipers, wheel cylinders and brake lines.

Flat tires

Could you fix a flat? Do you have all the necessary tools to do so? Make sure your spare is in a good condition should you need it, as well as any release mechanisms (particularly if the tire is stored on the outside of or underneath the vehicle).

Exterior lights

Find a friend to help you check your  brake lights, Turn signals, headlights  and Reverse lights

Baggage

When you are loading the car, store heavy bags in the trunk and other items on the floor behind the front seats.  This will prevent anything becoming a projectile or items spilling all over the car if you need to make a sudden stop.

Tires

Tires need two things to work properly: tread and air. To check the tread’s depth, stick the head side of a quarter into it. If you can see all of the Queen’s head, you need new tires.  Be sure that your tires are filled to your vehicles specifications.
